Offshore Projects

Concrete can handle the immense task of withstanding the elements of the rough seas for decades supporting green energy production. Heidelberg Materials is a reliable and experienced partner for providing high-quality, durable, and sustainable concrete solutions.

Competence

Large concrete structures is the solid foundation of which huge parts of the offshore industry in Norwegian waters has been built on. Cement products and concrete mixtures were designed to optimize these unique and impressive constructions. Those structures have proved to be of outstanding quality. We still have that competence at Heidelberg Materials for what is needed to embark on a new era of offshore structures in concrete.

Our subsidiaries offer a full range of products within aggregates, cement, concrete and prefabricated concrete. And we can provide these materials and products in large volumes and with a predictable logistics.

Heidelberg Materials has a strong track record of providing sustainable concrete solutions that help reduce the carbon footprint of renewable energy projects.

Optimized solutions, which give high quality production with minimal carbon footprint will be our trademark. In the last decades the companies has also invested heavily in research and development to create innovative and sustainable concrete solutions, such as low-carbon concrete mixtures.

Why use concrete?

Concrete is an ideal material for offshore wind projects due to its durability, strength, and ability to withstand harsh marine environments.  Here’s some arguments for using concrete:

Durability and strength: Concrete is one of the most durable and strong materials available, which makes it an ideal choice for offshore wind projects. The concrete can withstand extreme weather conditions such as strong winds, waves, and salty water, providing long-lasting support for wind turbines.

Low maintenance: Concrete is relatively low-maintenance compared to other materials, making it a cost-effective solution for offshore wind projects. With its low-maintenance requirements, it offers cost savings and is also ideal for remote locations.

Sustainable: Concrete is a sustainable material, as it can be recycled and reused, which makes it an environmentally friendly solution for offshore wind projects.  Heidelberg Materials can offer unique products.

Our offer

Heidelberg Materials offers a full value-chain of products from aggregates to cement and concrete.  Our products can be designed to meet your requirements, and we have vast experience in large and complex infrastructure project both on- and offshore in the Nordics and Baltics.

Our mixtures include additives that increase the durability and resistance of the concrete against harsh marine environments, ensuring the longevity of the wind turbines.

Offshore projects -a part of our history

The Condeep-platforms was revolutionary when they were built. The platforms were some of the largest manmade, transportable structures when they were built from 1973 to 1995.

This gravity-based structure for a platform was unique in that it was built from reinforced concrete instead of steel, which was the norm up to that point.

This platform type was designed for the heavy weather conditions and the great water depths often found in the North Sea.
