Major investment for carbon reduction at Norcem Kjøpsvik cement plant
Norcem has recently received the go-ahead to invest in several initiatives at the cement plant in Kjøpsvik. The investments, totalling around NOK 80 million (8,2 million euro), will help reduce the CO2 emissions from the production.
The investments will be earmarked for a number of initiatives at the plant. On the technical side, facilities will be modernized in order to receive and handle larger volumes of waste-derived fuels to feed the cement kiln.
Being able to accept larger quantities will meet the needs for the waste suppliers, the plant’s needs for more efficient handling, and the immediate neighbours’ needs for zero-waste and odourless treatment of the alternative fuels.
“It is a win-win situation, where the plant reduces its CO2 emissions and the region sees a better and more sustainable local handling and reuse of collected waste,” says Plant Manager Trond Kaasa.
